The major stable release of PrusaSlicer, version 2.9.3, is out!

It brings a significant improvement called Consistent Surface to further improve print quality, a smart way to reduce ringing and also very useful custom G-Code parameters.

However, there is much more to share: the release is a part of Prusas extensive effort to significantly improve the quality of 3D prints, including nerfing VFAs (Vertical Fine Artifacts). The main focus was the Prusa CORE One, but other printers benefit from this as well, including the MK4/S and XL, and even third-party 3D printers!

Most of the print quality improvements come from PrusaSlicer, which has always been open-source and we want these improvements to be useful for everyone.

Quick Tips for Perfect Surface Finish:

ㆍ Update your PrusaSlicer to version 2.9.3

ㆍ Try the new Balanced profiles

    ㆍ Tune your belts

Key Updates in PrusaSlicer 2.9.3

Consistent Surface Optimization

This new cooling strategy keeps print speeds steadier by prioritizing slowdown on less-visible areas like infill, only adjusting perimeters when absolutely necessary. The result is a consistent surface finish across the entire model, especially with glossy filaments like black PETG.

Reduced Ringing on External Surfaces

Very short travel moves between perimeters can cause sharp vibrations when printed with high acceleration. We now handle these moves with a specific lower acceleration, reducing ringing and ghosting while keeping corners sharp without slowing overall print time.

Updated Print Profiles

They have fine-tuned CORE One profiles to minimize VFAs without affecting print times. A brand-new BALANCED profile combines speed, surface quality, and durability. It’s a great default for most practical prints. SPEED remains the choice for fast, clean results, while STRUCTURAL keeps its focus on maximum strength, with only minor changes to preserve durability as the top priority.

Custom G-Code Parameters

This is an incredibly useful function for advanced users: it is now possible to define custom variables in Print, Printer, and Filament profiles and use them in any custom G-code section. It’s perfect for anyone who is into deeper tweaking of print profiles, writing post-processing scripts, and similar things, because it streamlines the workflow and brings the possibility to store parameters in one place.

Optimized Belt Tension

Another element that can negatively affect the print quality is incorrectly tightened belts. This can mainly happen with assembly kits. We’re introducing a reworked belt tuning procedure and an improved tuner. They have added a new, detailed, and simple-to-follow step-by-step guide on how to tune the belts. You can use either an online tuner or a more convenient version in the official Prusa App.
